Adjective: a word used to describe a noun or pronoun ot to give a noun or pronoun a more specific meaning. Modifies: act of changing something slightly. Adjectives add more information that answers any of four questions:
ARTICLES: a, an, and the are three adjectives that are called articles. The is called a definite article because it refers to a specific noun. A and an are indefinite articles because they refer to any one of a class of nouns.
Exercise 1: Write the sentences below. Underline the regular adjectives, circle the articles.
Nouns Used as Adjectives: A noun used as an adjective answers the question "What Kind? or Which one?" about a noun that follows it.
Exercise 2: Write the noun used as an adjective in each sentence.

- Parrots are monogamous, often remaining with a single mate for life.

- Macaws perch among the tree branches while they eat.
- Occasionally, they will also search the forest floor for food.
- Because they live in the warm tropics of South America, the birds do not migrate to a winter territory.
- Unfortunately, the macaw population is dwindling because of the actions of humans.
- Cattle ranches are the biggest threat to the remaining habitat of the macaw.
- The birds are also threatened by wildlife poachers.
